MSPIFF — In The Frame: The Art of Personal Documentary

  • The Main (theater 3) 115 Main St. SE Minneapolis, MN United States (map)

FREE EVENT
Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival

By definition, documentary filmmakers are curious people. Through exhaustive research, countless interviews, and hours and hours of filming, they develop a deep understanding of their subject matter before communicating a clear vision to the audience. But what happens when the subject is not only a public issue but a deeply personal one as well? And how does the filmmaker’s creative journey take a new turn once the filmmaker makes the crucial (and often scary) decision to turn the camera on herself or himself?

For this special live event (to be featured in a future episode of the podcast Top Docs: Award-Winning Documentary Filmmakers), MSPIFF documentary programmer and podcast host Ken Jacobson will be joined by filmmakers Ahsen Nadeem (Crows Are White), Kelsey Peterson and Daniel Klein (Move Me), Katya Soldak (The Long Breakup), and Chezik Tsunoda (Drowning in Silence) to discuss the diverse range of topics covered in these powerfully evocative films and to explore the artistic and emotional challenges of putting themselves in the frame.

Date: Saturday, May 14
Time: 12:00pm - 1:15pm
Location: MSP Film at The Main (Theatre 3), 115 Main St. SE, Minneapolis
